Forge de Laguiole

Forge de Laguiole

The famous, handcrafted “Laguiole” knife originates from the Aubrac plateau in south-western France, an isolated region where it was used by herders as early as the nineteenth century. Then as now, these renowned knives are crafted in small production runs. As the only manufacturer located directly in the village of the same name, Forge de Laguiole is staffed by state-certified craftspeople. With Living Heritage Company status and recognised as Best Knifemaker in France, the company is instrumental in keeping this long tradition alive.

Another distinctive quality of Forge de Laguiole is that it manufactures each and every knife component itself. Neither blades nor any other parts are sourced from outside, and particular importance is attached to using high-grade T12 steel to make them. Knife handles, meanwhile, are made of traditional materials, such as horn, bone and sometimes even precious woods, carbon and cask oak, for instance. Alongside pocketknives, the Forge de Laguiole range includes cutlery, steak knives, bread and cheese knives and sommelier knives. Each one bears the company’s hallmark bee symbol – the mark of a genuine Laguiole knife.
