Fornasetti

Fornasetti

“I don’t believe in periods or dates … I refuse to determine the value of an object by its date. (…) I like the idea of creating fashionable items that never go out of fashion,” Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) once said. His explanation could hardly be more to the point: this master of décor designed objects and furniture in his own, distinctive style and managed to do so in a way that they remain surprisingly timeless nonetheless – a comfort indeed in these times of ever-faster changing fashions.

Fornasetti, who was a collaborator to the famous architect and designer Gio Ponti back in the 1930s, left a wealth of treasures as his legacy. His portrait of opera singer Lina Cavalieri alone exists in almost 400 different variations, for instance. Today the custodian of his inheritance, which comprises more than 11,000 different motifs, is his son, Barnaba, with whom he worked in the 1980s.

Having sifted through the archive with passion and persistence, Barnaba has revived some of his father’s most important works and now recreates them in his own workshop. He also makes his own pieces there, likewise in keeping with the crafting traditions of his father. Today Fornasetti’s unconventional aesthetic style is stronger and more alive than ever before and still never ceases to surprise us. In late 2013, to mark what would have been Fornasetti’s 100th birthday, the Triennale in Milan staged a major retrospective. It was an unconventional display that documented his living legacy and history with more than 1,000 exhibits.

In our shop in Munich, we present the entire range of the Milanese label Fornasetti - and Germany's largest selection of furniture, porcelain, cushions, lamps, home accessories, wallpapers ...This intensive cooperation allows us to offer limited editions and exclusive editions.
