Lobmeyr

Founded in 1823 in Vienna, Lobmeyr remains a family glassmaking business and is now in its sixth generation.
The company history spans almost 200 years. It is characterised throughout by endeavours to innovate and collaborate with top designers, not only in the manufacture of chandeliers (Lobmeyr worked with Thomas Edison to develop the first electrically illuminated chandelier) but also in tableware and glassware. Renowned designers who have developed products for Lobmeyr range from Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos to Matteo Thun, Ted Muehling and Martino Gamper.

One of the most significant designs was without a doubt the Metropolitan chandelier series, which has adorned the New York Opera House for over 50 years. It is now considered one of the most influential light designs of the twentieth century.
